Cut to Real Issues In School Crisis
Do you ever get the feeling we're being jerked around in all thepolitical blabber about this Umpteenth Annual Chicago School Crisis?
Me too. So I had a talk Thursday with Bernie Noven, who has asclear-eyed a view of our schools as anyone I know and whose labors Iadmire.
Noven has the credentials to know what he's talking about. Hetook early retirement this summer after 25 years as a teacher andsocial worker in the Chicago system.
He got his own education in Chicago schools. He's had two kidsin Chicago schools. He has worked in 60 different schools (thereused to be only seven social workers for the entire system).
